The EG Juvenile season may not appear that we were a strong force by our standings, ending up in 5th place out of 7 but that does not tell the whole story. The York Simcoe Juvenile league combines A, AA, and AAA teams. This year 4 of the 7 teams were AAA, and one was a AA team. Facing these centres and being able to compete against them made for a stronger team.
Our OMHA series began with playing Woolwich, whom we swept 3 games to none. Then we moved on to play Erie North Shores (Leamington area) and once again, we swept them 3 games to none.
Our final series was with Quinte West who proved to be our nemesis. Game One was a win for Quinte 3 - 2, Game Two was a win for the Eagles 4 - 1. The 3rd game was at home and there were lots of fans to cheer us on but we lost again. The final game was back in Trenton March 24th, the team worked so hard but just could not grab the win, they lost 3-2. The teams were well matched and we are very proud of the hard work and team play by the Eagles in the final game.
Being finalists in an OMHA series is a huge achievement; the team, although disappointed not to win, were honoured to receive the Syl Apps Trophy. This trophy will be on loan from the OMHA and displayed in the trophy case until November. The Team is very proud to have represented our community and to wear the colours of the EG Eagles throughout the season and hope you enjoy the trophy while on display.
The EG Minor Peewee 'A' Eagles enjoyed a fantastic and hugely successful regular season, however had a tough end to the season and even more rough start to the playoffs, enduring a 13-game winless streak.
They brought it together and were inspired by the memories of winning the Team Spirit Award in 2012. They pulled together as a team during our quarter-final match up vs. Nobleking, knocking them out 3 games to 1. Our semi-final opponent was Newmarket, with whom we have enjoyed a long and exciting rivalry. The Eagles made quick work of them, sweeping Newmarket out of contention in 3 straight games.
Off to the finals vs. Orillia and again, the boys showed us who they are and what they can do. We yet again achieved a sweep in 3 games and earned the title of York Simcoe Champions.
We are so incredibly proud of this team and are honoured to be a part of this victory. To our players – Adam, Regan, Ian, Nicholas, Declan, Shayne, Ryan, Dalton, Jacob, Alastair, Shane, Lucas, Bradley, Liam, Jonas, Nolan and Reid ... we thank you. To our coaches – Frank, Scott, Mike, Eric, Mike, Mark and Trav ... your dedication and commitment to our boys will always be treasured. GO EAGLES!!!
