EGMHA PEEWEE A WINS CHAMPIONSHIP

Hoping to finish the season on a high, the East Gwillimbury Eagles Minor Peewee 'A' hockey team took to the ice for one final tournament this past weekend, competing in the Pickering Panthers' PHA April tournament.  Beginning with a convincing 3-0 win on Friday evening, the Eagles split 2 Saturday games, a 3-1 loss followed by another 3-0 victory.  The results were enough to seed them second going into Sunday's playdowns, where they toppled Owen Sound 4-3 in the semi finals, and sent them to the championship game against Clarington, the top-seeded team from the round robin, and the only squad to better the Eagles.  After going down 2-0, the Eagles fought back to take a 3-2 lead early in the 3rd period.  Clarington quickly tied the score, and the two teams battled equally back and forth until East Gwillimbury settled things with a final tally with less than 7 seconds on the clock, taking the final 4-3.

The entire team played exceptionally well, and are deserved tournament champions.  The coaches were very proud, and spoke highly of each and every players' dedication to teamwork, the game plan, disciplined play and continuous and consistent effort, and the enthusiasm and focus that they showed in the dressing room, on the bench, and specifically on the ice.

Congratulations, Eagles!!!

EGMHA Bantams win Gold in Lake Placid

The EGMHA Major Bantam team coached by Greg Quattrin, claimed gold in the March 17-20 tournament hosted in beautiful Lake Placid this past weekend. The boys put forth a solid effort in advancing to the finals vs the Gold Coast Admirals. Our players played with grace and control, decisively winning the Championship game 5-0.

In addition to the team's winning record going into the championship, they also won the on-ice relay race vs 7 other teams from Canada and the United States during the tournament Skills Competition.

Overall the tournament was extremely well run and the accomodations and atmosphere were outstanding!

During their stay, the team took advantage of the amazing attractions offered in the Lake Placid Area. Players and parents skied Whiteface Mountain, which according to some is the highest point in the US "east of the Mississippi", and rode on the Olympic bobsled track, hitting speed of over 50 mph!

The Major Bantam team recommends this tournament to other EGMHA teams who are interested in more than just a hockey experience for their players and families.
